Our Firm

Fulton Vittoria LLP resulted from the merger of Fulton, Rowe & Hart LLP and Vittoria Purdy & Cavallaro LLP on January 1, 2016.

Fulton, Rowe & Hart LLP was formed in 1946 by Hugh Fulton, Rudolph Halley and Henry G. Walter, Jr. Mr. Fulton was executive assistant to the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York from 1938 to 1941. Mr. Fulton and Mr. Halley were members of the 1941 U.S. Senate Special Truman Committee to investigate the national defense program (Mr. Fulton was its chief counsel) and the 1950 U.S. Senate Special Kefauver Committee to investigate crime in interstate commerce (Mr. Halley was its chief counsel). Mr. Halley was President of the New York City Council from 1951 until 1953 and in 1953 he ran for mayor of New York City, finishing in third place (Robert Wagner won the election). Prior to joining Mr. Fulton and Mr. Halley, Mr. Walter was general counsel of Heyden Chemical Corp., a military contractor. In 1962, Mr. Walter left the firm to become president of International Flavors and Fragrances, Inc. (IFF), and was named its chairman and chief executive in 1970. He was succeeded at the helm of IFF by another lawyer from the firm, Eugene P. Grisanti.

George Rowe, Jr., joined the firm in 1948. Mr. Rowe spent his entire professional career with the firm and was instrumental in developing and maintaining relationships with the firm's clients.

Joseph T.C. Hart joined the firm in 1965.

At its inception, the firm's client base consisted of both corporate entities (private and public companies) and private individuals. Over the years, the focus has shifted more toward private clients, particularly wealthy family groups, family owned businesses, and family private foundations. Today, the firm continues to service those very same families (now on the third and fourth generation), businesses, and foundations, in addition to providing services to new clients.

At the time of the merger, the firm was led by Maurizio J. Morello.

Vittoria Purdy & Cavallaro LLP was formed in 1975 by its founder, Theodore J. Vittoria, Jr. Vittoria Purdy & Cavallaro LLP (VP&C) specialized in advising and assisting clients and their families with their estate and trust planning needs, the probate and administration of estates and trusts, and other personal and business matters that generally affected its clients' wealth and wealth transfers. VP&C became one of the most successful and well-regarded Trusts & Estates boutiques in the New York City area, with thousands of clients ranging from young couples looking for the most basic estate planning for their new families to extremely wealthy families and individuals with more complicated and sophisticated needs, as well as international financial institutions.

At the time of the merger, the firm was led by James A. Purdy.
